Members from Pendeen Silver Band have recently been recording a series of Cornish Hymns as part of the collaborative Art Project, Edges & Extremes.
The project, which was inspired by Geevor Tin Mine and the surrounding west Cornwall landscape, was undertaken by visual artist Sally Booth along with the Scottish poet Evlynn Sharp.
Focused on the local area, the people and the industry a number of monologues and poems were recorded at the BBC Radio Cornwall studios along with the contribution of Cornish Hymns played by some members of the band.
Chris Hatch, band secretary, commented: “It’s been a fantastic opportunity to work with Evlynn on this project and to be able to bring to life the feeling of west Penwith through a combination of music, art and poetry.”
The project will culminate with a book and CD being released along with an exhibition at the Tate Modern in London in the new year.
